A Great Secret

I was browsing the web today, and came across a local business website that listed one of its core values as "success through faith" - meaning, the Christian faith.  I'm delighted to see more people of faith in the corporate world, and especially delighted that they integrate this as part of their business philosophy, but also aware of how carefully the world will scrutinize businesses like that.  All the more important that we be people of compassion, integrity and a truly God-honoring work ethic.  I think people of the world are looking for people (and businesses) like that.

An ancient bishop named Cyprian once wrote to a friend named Donatus, describing the Christian people:  "It is a bad world, Donatus, an incredibly bad world. But I have discovered, in the midst of it, a quiet and holy people who have learned a great secret. They have found a joy which is a thousand times better than any of the pleasures of our sinful life. They are despised and persecuted, but they care not. ... They have overcome the world. These people, Donatus, are Christians, and I am one of them."
